Step by step

From room creation to watching together

01

Create a room

Start a temporary room for a one-off session, or sign in to create a saved room your group can return to.

02

Choose who can join

Use code-only access for quick invitations, or friends-only access for a room limited to people already on your LofiCouch friends list.

03

Add your video

Search YouTube, paste a shareable Google Drive link, or pair the browser extension for Netflix, JioHotstar, or Crunchyroll.

04

Invite up to three guests

Share the room code or private invite link with the people you want to watch with.

05

Let the host guide playback

The host controls play, pause, seeking, and source changes while voice, chat, reactions, and the shared queue keep everyone connected.

Room types

Choose the right room for your group

Temporary room

Best for a quick or one-off watch party. Create the room, share the code, and start watching without setting up a permanent group space.

Saved room

Best for recurring movie nights, anime sessions, or YouTube hangouts. Signing in gives you access to saved rooms, profiles, friends, room history, and friends-only access.

Access settings

Decide who gets in

A guest is any participant who is not the host, whether they are signed in or not.

Code-only

Anyone with the room code can join, including guests who are not signed in. Use this when you want the lowest-friction way to bring a group together.

Friends-only

Only signed-in users who are already on the host’s LofiCouch friends list can join. Use this for recurring groups that want more controlled access.

Choose the video for your next session

Watch YouTube and shareable Google Drive videos directly in LofiCouch. For protected streaming services, keep the provider tab open while the extension keeps the room in sync.

Roles

One host keeps the room together

Every room has one host and up to three guests. The host controls play, pause, seeking, and source changes. Guests follow the host’s playback state as closely as the browser, video source, provider, and network allow. Everyone can stay involved through voice chat, text chat, reactions, and the shared queue without competing for playback control.

Playback & Sync

Built-in playback or extension sync

Inside the LofiCouch room

YouTube and shareable Google Drive videos can play directly inside the room. The source still controls whether a video is available, embeddable, processed, and accessible to each participant.

On the streaming provider’s website

Netflix, JioHotstar, and Crunchyroll remain on their own websites. The LofiCouch browser extension coordinates playback between the provider tab and the room while every participant uses their own account. LofiCouch does not proxy or restream protected video.

Features

Everything your group needs, in one room

Talk

Use voice chat for conversation before, during, or after the video.

Message

Use text chat for quick reactions, links, or playback notes.

React

Respond to moments without talking over the video.

Queue

Keep the next video or backup option ready without sending links through another app.

Sync expectations

Host-led sync, with honest expectations

LofiCouch keeps guests close to the host’s playback state. Buffering, advertisements, autoplay rules, provider pages, and network conditions can still create brief timing differences. The goal is not impossible frame-perfect sync. It is a clear shared playback state inside a room where the group can stay connected.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers before you start

Before you start

Is LofiCouch free?

Yes. All current LofiCouch features are free. Streaming providers may still require their own subscriptions or account access.

How many people can join?

Each room supports four participants: one host and up to three guests.

Can I join without signing in?

Yes, if the room uses code-only access. Friends-only rooms require you to be signed in and already on the host’s friends list.

What is the difference between a host and a guest?

The host controls playback. Every other participant is a guest, whether they are signed in or not.

Watching together

Do I need the extension?

Not for YouTube or Google Drive. Netflix, JioHotstar, and Crunchyroll require the LofiCouch extension on a supported desktop Chromium browser.

Does everyone need their own streaming account?

Yes, for protected streaming services. Every participant uses their own provider account, subscription, and regional access.

Does LofiCouch guarantee perfect synchronization?

No. LofiCouch keeps guests close to the host state, but buffering, ads, browser behavior, and network conditions may affect timing.

Does LofiCouch restream Netflix, JioHotstar, or Crunchyroll?

No. Protected video stays with the streaming provider. LofiCouch coordinates playback and provides the room around it.
